1. Introduction

Date Roll (“Date Roll,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) helps you cut through decision fatigue and find something to do for a date — let the good times roll. This Privacy Policy explains what information Date Roll processes when you use the Date Roll mobile application (the “App”), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices available to you. It describes our actual, current practices rather than a generic template, and we’ll update it if our practices change.

Please review this Privacy Policy carefully. If you have questions about our privacy practices, you can contact us using the information provided below.

2. Information We Collect and Process

Date Roll does not require you to create an account. You can use the App without giving us your name, email address, or phone number. Because of this, most of what Date Roll processes is tied to your device and your current app session rather than to a personal profile we maintain.

Location Information

Location access is optional and is only used to improve the accuracy of nearby venue recommendations — it is never required to use Date Roll.

  • Date Roll only ever asks for “when in use” (foreground) location — never background location.
  • We only request location permission after you take an explicit action asking for it (for example, tapping “Use my current location”).
  • If you decline or later revoke location permission, Date Roll remains fully functional. You can enter a city or area manually instead and search normally.
  • When you do share your device location, it’s sent — along with your other search choices — to our backend so we can ask Google Places for nearby venues. We do not maintain a server-side history of your location.
  • Date Roll may briefly keep a rounded, low-precision version of your location on your own device (not on our servers) for up to 24 hours, purely to avoid showing you the same venue suggestions again right away. See “Information Stored on Your Device” below.

We do not maintain a location-history database on our servers, and we do not use your location for advertising or sell it to third parties.

Search and Preference Information

When you use Date Roll to plan a date, you provide search preferences such as:

  • a city or area (typed manually, or derived from device location);
  • vibe (for example, playful, romantic, adventurous, chill, foodie, or creative);
  • budget;
  • setting (for example, indoor, outdoor, at home, or either);
  • how far you’re willing to travel;
  • your desired date/time or timing preference; and
  • other search options the current version of the App offers.

We use these preferences to request relevant venues from Google Places through our backend. Some of this information may also be temporarily stored on your device, as described below.

Venue Interaction Information

As you use the rolling and cutting experience, Date Roll processes information such as the venue options generated for you, Google’s identifiers for those venues, which ones you cut, which became finalists, which one was ultimately selected, and — if you tell us — whether you completed the date. Some of this is recorded in a local, on-device activity log using Google’s place identifiers rather than complete venue records. We do not currently maintain a server-side history that ties this activity to a Date Roll account, because Date Roll does not have accounts.

Subscription Information

If you purchase Date Roll Premium, our subscription-management provider, RevenueCat, processes purchase and entitlement information (see “RevenueCat” below) so we can confirm what you’re entitled to and support restoring a purchase. We do not send RevenueCat your name, email, or phone number, and we don’t create our own account identifier for you there. RevenueCat uses an automatically generated anonymous identifier to support subscription and entitlement functionality.

Technical Information

Operating a mobile backend inherently involves some technical information. For example, your device’s IP address is visible to our backend infrastructure for the brief moment it takes to process a request, and may be used for ordinary technical purposes like rate-limiting so the service isn’t abused. We do not currently build a persistent log tying IP addresses to individual search or venue activity.

3. Information Stored on Your Device

Some Date Roll information lives only on your own device, in storage that belongs to the App as installed on your phone — not on our servers. This is different from a cloud account: it disappears if you delete the App or clear its data, and we cannot see or retrieve it remotely. Currently, this includes three categories of information:

Live-search usage tracking. To apply Date Roll’s live-search allowance (a limited number of live venue searches within a rolling 24-hour period for Standard users), the App keeps a short list of timestamps for your successful searches on your device. Each timestamp ages out of the rolling window on its own as time passes, freeing up allowance again. This usage tracking is not sent to us as a stored usage record.

Recommendation-repetition history. To avoid showing you the same venues again right away, Date Roll temporarily stores limited recommendation-history information on your device — which venues you’ve recently been shown for a given search, referenced by Google’s place identifiers rather than complete venue details. When you use device location for a search, this record may include a rounded, low-precision version of your coordinates as part of how the record is organized. This information becomes eligible for removal after 24 hours and is pruned during normal app operation.

Local activity history. Date Roll keeps a local, on-device activity log of things you do in the App — for example, the search preferences you used, venue options generated, which ones you cut, your finalists and the winning venue, whether you told us you completed the date, and your interactions with the Premium paywall. This log stays on your device only and is not transmitted to Date Roll or our third-party service providers. It is maintained for local app activity and diagnostic purposes. It’s limited to whichever comes first: the most recent 100 entries, or 30 days of history. Older or excess entries are removed the next time the App is opened or generates a new entry — we don’t run a background process purely to delete old entries the instant they turn 30 days old; cleanup happens as part of normal app activity.

4. How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

  • provide venue recommendations relevant to your search;
  • improve the geographic relevance of those recommendations, using device location (when you provide it) or your manually entered city;
  • apply the search preferences you select;
  • reduce repetitive venue recommendations;
  • operate the roll, cut, and final-selection experience;
  • enforce product usage allowances, like the live-search limit;
  • provide and manage Date Roll Premium functionality;
  • process and restore subscription purchases;
  • maintain the reliability and security of the App and our backend;
  • help prevent abuse of the service; and
  • comply with applicable legal obligations.

We do not use this information for advertising, and we do not use it to build behavioral advertising profiles.

5. Third-Party Services

We work with a small number of service providers to operate Date Roll. We share only the information necessary for each provider to perform its function — we do not sell your information to any of them, and we do not control their independent data practices.

Google Places

Date Roll uses the Google Places service to find and describe nearby venues. When you search, relevant information — such as the geographic search area, your device coordinates (only if you’ve chosen to share your location), your manually entered city, and the other search parameters you selected — may be sent to Google, through our backend, to return recommendations. Google processes this information according to its own privacy practices, which Date Roll does not control. We do not permanently store Google’s complete Places dataset; we only keep the limited, place-identifier-based information described in “Information Stored on Your Device” above.

Supabase

Date Roll uses Supabase to host parts of our backend infrastructure, including the service that receives your search request and queries Google Places on our behalf. Your search parameters pass through this backend to be processed; we do not currently write those individual searches into a persistent, Date Roll–specific search-history database. As with any web request, your device’s IP address is visible to this infrastructure briefly while your request is handled, and may be used for ordinary technical purposes like rate-limiting; we don’t currently keep a permanent record of it.

RevenueCat

Date Roll uses RevenueCat to manage Premium subscription purchases and to check what you’re entitled to. RevenueCat uses an automatically generated anonymous identifier to support subscription and entitlement functionality — we do not create our own user ID for you, and we don’t send RevenueCat your name, email, or phone number. Through RevenueCat, we’re able to see purchase and subscription transaction information (such as your subscription/entitlement status, and relevant receipt or purchase-token information from Apple or Google) sufficient to unlock Premium features and support “Restore Purchases.” This anonymous identifier is not a Date Roll account and is not necessarily tied permanently or exclusively to a single physical device — it exists solely to support subscription functionality.

Apple App Store and Google Play

If you purchase Date Roll Premium, that purchase is processed by Apple’s or Google’s own in-app purchasing systems, as applicable. We do not receive or store your card number, full payment credentials, or your Apple ID or Google Account credentials — Apple and Google handle payment directly, and provide RevenueCat (and, through it, us) only with the information needed to confirm your purchase and entitlement.

6. How We Share Information

We share information with the service providers above only as needed for them to perform their function for us — not for their own independent marketing purposes, and not for sale. We do not currently sell your personal information to data brokers or advertisers, and we do not currently use your personal information for cross-app or cross-site behavioral advertising.

We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, respond to lawful requests, enforce our Terms of Use, prevent fraud or abuse, or protect the rights, safety, and security of Date Roll, our users, or others.

7. Data Retention

Because Date Roll doesn’t use accounts, most information is either short-lived on your device or exists only for the duration of your current session:

  • In-session data. Most of the active Date Roll experience — your current search, results, cuts, and selections — exists only in your device’s memory while you’re using the App, and is cleared when your session resets or the App is closed.
  • Live-search usage tracking. Individual timestamps age out of the rolling 24-hour allowance window automatically during normal use.
  • Recommendation-repetition history. Becomes eligible for removal after 24 hours and is pruned during normal app operation.
  • Local activity history. Retained for whichever comes first: 30 days, or the most recent 100 entries. Older or excess entries are removed as part of normal app activity (at startup, or as new entries are added) rather than by a dedicated background deletion service.
  • Subscription and transaction records. Apple, Google, and RevenueCat may retain purchase and subscription records according to their own policies and legal obligations; we don’t control how long they keep this information.
  • Backend search processing. We do not currently keep a server-side history of your individual venue searches.

8. Your Choices and Controls

You can:

  • decline device-location permission and still use Date Roll fully via manual location entry;
  • change your mind later and revoke Date Roll’s location permission at any time through your device’s operating system settings;
  • clear Date Roll’s on-device data using your operating system’s app-data controls;
  • delete or uninstall Date Roll, which removes all of the local information described in “Information Stored on Your Device” from your device;
  • manage or cancel your Premium subscription through your Apple App Store or Google Play account/subscription settings;
  • use “Restore Purchases” within the App, where available, to reapply an existing subscription; and
  • contact us with privacy questions or applicable data-rights requests (see “Contact Us” below).

Date Roll does not currently offer an in-app “Clear My Data” button; the controls above — your device’s app-data settings, or uninstalling the App — are the way to clear locally stored Date Roll information today.

9. Data Deletion and Privacy Rights

Deleting the App, or clearing its data through your device’s settings, removes the local information described in “Information Stored on Your Device” from your device. Because we don’t maintain a server-side account or search-history database tied to you, there is generally no separate Date Roll–held copy of that information for us to delete on our end.

That said, Apple, Google, and RevenueCat may independently retain purchase, subscription, or transaction records as needed to provide purchases, support restoration, meet accounting or fraud-prevention obligations, or comply with law — deleting the App does not delete those providers’ own records. If you contact us about RevenueCat-related information, we may need enough information from you (such as your approximate purchase date or platform) to help locate the relevant anonymous RevenueCat record before we can request its deletion from RevenueCat, where legally appropriate.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding personal information relating to you, which may include the right to:

  • know what information is collected or processed;
  • correct inaccurate information;
  • request deletion;
  • restrict or object to certain processing;
  • receive a copy of your information in a portable format; and
  • withdraw consent, where processing is based on consent (such as choosing to share your location).

Some of these rights may not practically apply to information that is stored only locally on your device, anonymously, and in a form we cannot independently connect to you as an individual. To exercise a right that applies to you, contact us using the information in “Contact Us” below, and we’ll respond consistent with applicable law.

10. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect the information Date Roll processes. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Children’s Privacy

Date Roll is intended for users who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.

Date Roll doesn’t use accounts, and we don’t currently verify age technically — so this is a statement of intent and eligibility, not a claim that Date Roll checks or confirms anyone’s age. Because most of what Date Roll processes is local to your device and isn’t tied to a name or other identifying information, we may not always be able to associate locally stored information with a particular individual, including a minor. If you believe that a person under 18 has provided personal information through Date Roll, please contact us at support@getdateroll.com so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

12. International and State Privacy Rights

Date Roll is currently developed with a U.S. focus, but we recognize you may have privacy rights available to you depending on where you live, and this Privacy Policy is not intended to limit those rights. See “Data Deletion and Privacy Rights” above for the categories of rights that may apply and how to exercise them.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as Date Roll evolves. If we make material changes, we’ll update the “Last Updated” date below and, where required by law, provide additional notice. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
